  28. DESIGN HISTORY
  29.  
  30. Diego1 was originally created by Fontographer Version 3.0.4
  31. (Nimbus Q hinting) on the MAC for a client in early 1989. It is named after the
  32. city I live in (San Diego) and exudes the same casual feeling as
  33. the city. It was designed as a display face with a subtle
  34. Calligraphy effect. You will notice that cap heights are not all
  35. the same as well as x height. This is by design. Another
  36. consideration was output at low resolution and that means 300 DPI
  37. so their is a boldness to it which is part of it's flavor also.

  41. Without the help of a number of people this typeface would have
  42. never been possible. Altsys Corporation for Fontographer. Judy
  43. Thorn for her original hand drawn creation of Diego1.To the best 
  44. of my knowledge Diego1 was the FIRST Shareware fully functional 
  45. PostScript typeface for Windows. It may also be the first in this
  46. area for the PC platform.

  51. I have tried to map as many characters as possible. Their is
  52. a haphazard mapping sometimes evident in the extended character
  53. set. This was caused by the long and tedious process of
  54. deciphering the encoding and the translation and patching of same
  55. from the MAC to the PC in early 1989. I have tried to provide most of the
  56. foreign language characters as well as some useful graphics that
  57. most typefaces do not contain like enlarged quotes,arrows, and 3
  58. different sized bullets to name a few. Please study your 
  59. printout from the supplied PageMaker publication.

  62. I NEED YOUR INPUT
  63.  
  64. This is a TrueType Beta Version 1.0 that needs to be tested with a wide
  65. variety of applications and printers. I plan to map characters 130 to 159 
  66. which is commonly refereed to as the Windows ANSI Plus. I would appreciate 
  67. your reports. If Diego1 is output at higher resolutions than 300 DPI I would
  68. appreciate a sample. Knowing that Diego1 is a well behaved font I 
  69. have received unconfirmed reports that Diego1 is being used with 
  70. other applications that run from DOS. Please give me specifics in this
  71. area Your thoughts are always welcome for future fine tuning.

  90. If you use Diego1 and don't register it you won't help me much and
  91. certainly won't receive upgrades or future releases of other
  92. typefaces for Shareware evaluation.

  94. VERSION HISTORY

  101. Version 3 Type 1 hinted for Windows 3

  103. Version 1.2 tweaks the kerning tables and spacing and resolved the
  104. mystery of printing when Diego1 is selected as Inline using the
  105. MGX PostScript Driver. Further conversion and patching was
  106. completed for proper use with Ventura Publisher.

  108. Version 1.1 fixes most of the garbled kerning pairs as
  109. well as spacing problems that were evident in Version 1.0.
